HB 195 Becomes Law, Expanding Access to Care in Alaska
The Alaska Legislature’s override of the Governor’s veto of HB 195 marked a major victory for Alaska patients, the pharmacy profession, and healthcare access across the state.
Following 25 committee hearings, extensive revisions, and broad bipartisan support, HB 195 will expand access to routine and minor care services while maintaining important patient-safety safeguards. The law will create new opportunities for pharmacists to practice at the top of their education and training—especially in communities facing provider shortages and long wait times.
This achievement reflects years of advocacy by pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, student pharmacists, pharmacy owners, educators, and supporters throughout Alaska. Every email, phone call, meeting, and piece of testimony helped move this legislation forward.
