Committee Restructuring Overview

The Alaska Pharmacy Association (AKPhA) is restructuring its committee framework to streamline operations, reduce duplication, and strengthen alignment with the 2025–2028 Strategic Plan. The goal is to improve efficiency, coordination, and accountability while maintaining robust opportunities for member engagement and leadership development.

Key Changes at a Glance

  1. Committees Consolidated
  • Membership, Community Relations/Social Media, Technician Advisory, Awards, and Academic/UAA committees will be combined into a single umbrella committee:
    → Membership, Engagement & Communications Committee
    This new committee integrates all functions related to member recruitment, engagement, communications, recognition, and academic partnerships. Subcommittees (Technician Advisory, Awards, Academic/UAA) remain available to support specific areas of work.
  1. Convention Committee Reorganized
  • The Convention Committee is now incorporated into the new Professional Development Committee, which coordinates all AKPhA events—including the Annual Convention, Health Systems Pharmacy & Leadership Conference, as well as CE and social programming throughout the year.
  • This ensures consistent planning templates, shared calls for presentations, and stronger collaboration with the CE Director and academies.
  1. Executive Committee Scope Expanded
  • The Finance & Operations (Executive) Committee now formally includes responsibilities for Constitution & Bylaws, Nominations, and Audit functions.
  • This eliminates separate standing committees for these areas and centralizes governance oversight under the Executive Committee’s purview.
  1. Legislative Committee Reframed
  • The former Legislative Committee is now the Advocacy & Policy Affairs Committee.
  • The name better reflects its expanded charge—covering legislative, regulatory, and public policy advocacy; coalition work; and workforce well-being initiatives.
  1. New Fundraising Committee Established
  • A new Fundraising Committee has been created to coordinate scholarship fundraising, advocacy fund efforts, and event-based donor opportunities.
  • The committee will work closely with Professional Development Committee to embed fundraising strategies into events and sustain AKPhA’s financial growth.
  1. Academies Enhanced
  • The Health System and Community Academies remain intact but now have clearly defined liaison roles to key committees and expanded responsibilities to:
    • Contribute content expertise to programming and policy.
    • Mentor members and develop leadership pipelines.
    • Represent Alaska at regional and national affiliate organizations (e.g., ASHP, APhA, NCPA).
