Great news from Medicaid for Alaskan pharmacists and the communities and patients we serve. Our years of advocacy on pharmacists as providers is coming to fruition with medicaid next month. Pharmacists will be able to enroll as rendering providers and get paid for their services through the medical benefit while affiliated with a pharmacy professional group, Tribal Health Organization, Federally Qualified Health Center, or Rural Health Clinic.
We passed HB145 in 2022, which required payers to recognize and reimburse pharmacists for their patient care services, but since that time we have worked tirelessly with Medicaid to see that realized across practice settings. Big thanks to Christopher Chong and Valerie Bixler who helped provide content for letters and documents that we submitted in the past year to provide support for the amazing work we see pharmacists doing with patients in clinics across Alaska everyday. This also would not have been possible without our continued collaboration with the Alaska Board of Pharmacy, Alaska Primary Care Association, the UAA ISU Doctor of Pharmacy Program, the National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations, and the American Pharmacists Association.
Billing training webinars will be available on 8/28/24 from 10-11:30AM, 9/6/24 from 8-9:30AM, and 9/11/24 from 3-4:30PM.
